Dedicated to the memory of Andy Brown

This site is a tribute to Andy. He is much loved and will always be remembered.

Andrew Ramsay Brown, was born in 1947. He was a highly caring, intelligent man with 5 children and 6 grandchildren. He worked extremely hard in life as a principal civil engineer in public services for over 25 years and was involved in the construction of some of the very first motorways in the UK

In addition to this, he raised 5 children that have gone on to excel in their respective fields of medicine, IT, business and construction.  Working extra jobs as a taxi driver in order to pay the bills was never something he was afraid of to provide for his children and his caring, crazy hardworking nature has had an amazing influence on many people

Andy retired on ill health following a heart attack at work several years ago, and was also diagnosed with Alzheimer's in July 2017.

His caring spirit, positivity and amazing personality will never be forgotten but it is unbelievably difficult and heartbreaking to see how this disease can imprison a persons' mind and body.

Andy passed away on the 27th of July at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice. This page is dedicated to Andy and the amazing team that cared for him and made his final days comfortable, peaceful and pain free.

Donations, thoughts, photographs and memories all welcome.

Thoughts

I miss you so much And I always will. You’ve left a hole in my heart That no-one can fill. You were a kind hearted man Who took things in your stride, And when I think of you, It fills with me with pride. You were always there with a smile, When I was sick, or needing a lift. I knew I could rely on you, Which was truly a gift. So many happy memories, You’ve given to me. Burning pinecones on holiday, Teaching me to skim stones by the sea. Your aviator shades And silly floppy blue hat. When we’d have our weekly catch up And I’d call you for a chat. The Saturday morning rampage, Hoover banging at the door. I’d always moan that I’d have to get up And help to do the chores. What I would give now to hear that bang once more. You’d always pinch my Easter eggs When I’d gone to bed. You definitely had a sweet tooth, Something I’ve inherited. Playing in the snow Too small, I got stuck. You lifted me out, But my wellies stayed put. Days at Shibden Park, Spring, Summer and Fall. The way we still laughed, Remembering you knocking me out with that ball. And when you announced that Jamie had asked for my hand Filled with excitement and glee, You just forgot one detail, That Jamie hadn’t yet asked me! But the fact you were so happy Just showed how much you cared, And it’s a moment that I’ll treasure, Something that we shared. There will be those who remember you As Andy Brown, Wearing slippers in the office Enjoying a curry and beer in town. I’ll remember how you made me laugh And that you were my friend. You’ll always be my hero, until the very end. I was so very lucky to have you And I will forever be glad, That I got to love you, And that you were my Dad. "A father holds his daughter's hand for a short while, but he holds her heart forever". You took care of us all for so long, it's your turn to rest now Dad, love you always. Lex x

Andy was my first friend when I moved to Bradford in 1982 and we shared some great times together over the years. I was especially honoured to be best man at his & Desma's wedding ceremony. As well as being a good friend, at work he was a first rate engineer and a person you could always turn to for help on a project or for general advice. He was hugely respected by all who worked with him. A good and kind man. I'll never forget his support, good humour and friendship
