I miss you so much
And I always will.
You’ve left a hole in my heart
That no-one can fill.
You were a kind hearted man
Who took things in your stride,
And when I think of you,
It fills with me with pride.
You were always there with a smile,
When I was sick, or needing a lift.
I knew I could rely on you,
Which was truly a gift.
So many happy memories,
You’ve given to me.
Burning pinecones on holiday,
Teaching me to skim stones by the sea.
Your aviator shades
And silly floppy blue hat.
When we’d have our weekly catch up
And I’d call you for a chat.
The Saturday morning rampage,
Hoover banging at the door.
I’d always moan that I’d have to get up
And help to do the chores.
What I would give now to hear that bang once more.
You’d always pinch my Easter eggs
When I’d gone to bed.
You definitely had a sweet tooth,
Something I’ve inherited.
Playing in the snow
Too small, I got stuck.
You lifted me out,
But my wellies stayed put.
Days at Shibden Park,
Spring, Summer and Fall.
The way we still laughed,
Remembering you knocking me out with that ball.
And when you announced that Jamie had asked for my hand
Filled with excitement and glee,
You just forgot one detail,
That Jamie hadn’t yet asked me!
But the fact you were so happy
Just showed how much you cared,
And it’s a moment that I’ll treasure,
Something that we shared.
There will be those who remember you
As Andy Brown,
Wearing slippers in the office
Enjoying a curry and beer in town.
I’ll remember how you made me laugh
And that you were my friend.
You’ll always be my hero,
until the very end.
I was so very lucky to have you
And I will forever be glad,
That I got to love you,
And that you were my Dad.
"A father holds his daughter's hand for a short while, but he holds her heart forever". You took care of us all for so long, it's your turn to rest now Dad, love you always. Lex x
